A lava field near Volcan Cerro Azul on Isabela. We are now off the grid: no internet, no cell coverage.
These cracks are caused when a cooled layer of lava is uplifted by pressure beneath the surface.
They can get quite large.
Notice the woody tree-like cactus with fruit high off the ground. This is because there are tortoises on this island.
